Department tight-lipped on cuts

THE final number has been given for Warwick-based RoadTek and the Department of Transport and Main Roads staff "reductions" this week, but a spokeswoman for TMR could not give any definitive answers and whether or not all of the staff members in the firing line had been told yesterday.

"The Warwick TMR office currently has 47 staff, and in line with the restructure there will be an estimated reduction of up to 12 staff," the spokeswoman said.

She said discussions with staff members about their options were continuing.

The Daily News asked what form the job cuts would take, when affected staff would finish up and whether or not those staff had been told.

But the department remained tight-lipped despite rumours staff from Main Roads (which is separate from RoadTek) would receive emails yesterday telling them of their fate.

"As this process is still underway, information about specific positions or proposed finish dates is not available," the spokeswoman said.

"The RoadTek depot in Warwick currently has 51 staff, and in line with the restructure there will be a reduction of up to 16 staff.

"This restructure is part of reforms to RoadTek announced in June, which will see the private sector deliver projects for better value for money.

"Specifically in the Warwick area there will be no changes to customer service centres."

The cuts are a part of the state government cost-cutting measures.
