Cuts, cuts and yes, more cuts in budget

COUNCILLORS and Southern Downs Regional Council staff will eat less, plant less and print less in a bid to balance the books.

The budget has revealed an extensive list of reductions in council expenditure, with cuts to everything from council lunches to pest control.

Spending in some areas of the council will be reduced by as much as 90%.

Catering for council staff will be reduced by 50% to $10,000, while the purchase of stationery will be centralised to save the council $27,000.

Advertising and promotion will be cut by 33.9% in the next twelve months, while a number of landscaping and beautification works will be deferred or ceased.

The purchase of horticultural products has been reduced by a staggering 92.6% to just $2000.

Printers and photocopiers will be set to greyscale double-sided printing in a bid to save money.
