Cutters heading west with 20 for the round robin
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Killarney Cutters will take a squad of 20 to Inglewood on Saturday for the Border Rugby League round robin.
Co-coach Ray Wagner said the club had been averaging 18 to training.
"We have a few of our players working away and also some committed to the annual trail ride in the mountains east of Killarney this weekend,” Wagner said.
Wagner is involved with the trail ride so co-coach Leejay Cooper will be calling the shots.
"Brett Lambert will be captain,” Wagner said.
Killarney plays Stanthorpe in the second game of the day and Inglewood in the fourth game of the day at Inglewood.
"We are going out there to win the round robin but the main thing is each player learns something from the experience,” he said.
"The Cutters have some new young players who are in their first year after reaching the minimum age of 17 for senior footy.
"It is two or three years since we won the round robin. I am tipping Inglewood to be the toughest to beat.”
There will be five Saturday games at Inglewood in the round robin with the grand final after 3pm.
The first BRL fixture round will be on April 22 when Killarney hosts Inglewood and Stanthorpe hosts Wallangarra. Tenterfield has the bye. Stanthorpe host Wallangarra in leaguetag round 1.
BRL Player of the year winners this season will receive trophies from the Border Post and Daily News.
