Cyclist left roadside after crash

DWAYNE Monaghan was hit by a car while riding his bike on Saturday afternoon and, amazingly, the driver of the vehicle left the bloodied and bruised teen by the side of the road.

The 19-year-old was travelling to his mother's house when a driver clipped the back of his bike, sending it careening under the vehicle and the teen flying onto the road.

The accident left him with severe gravel rash down his left arm, a mangled finger that required stitches and a severed vein.

"I was inside the white line and I don't know where the car came from - I didn't even see it," he said.

Bleeding quite heavily from his finger and in need of medical attention, the teen said he was handed a few tissues by the driver of the vehicle who told the teen she could not take him to the hospital because her car was full.

Another motorist stopped and waited with the young man, whose friend soon came looking for him after finding his hurt dog, Chad wandering the streets.

Chad was running alongside the bike at the time of the accident and sustained scratches to his leg and a persistent limp.

Mr Monaghan's mother, Robyn, said her concern is what could have happened to her son if he wasn't picked up by his mate.

"She could have done the right thing and phoned the ambulance and or police but she cleared the road of his belongings and left him on the side of the road," she said.

"How would she feel if I did the same thing to her child or grandchild?

Mr Monaghan said the car was a silver four-wheel drive and the driver was a woman, around 50 years old with blonde/grey hair.
