Cyclist mixes it with riders of all ages year after year
JOHN Eder might be one of the best masters cyclists in the world but he showed early this year he could mix it with the best of the elite despite giving more than two decades in age to his opponents.
Eder has won his third monthly Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Month award in the past eight years after outstanding performances at all levels in the sport.
He set one national and two state records for his age in winning the 750m time trial and sprint at both state and national championships this year.
In a field of 16 where he was second oldest in the elite grade, Eder won his semi-final in Brisbane against a rider 22 years his junior before winning silver in the final.
He went on to compete in the World Masters Championships in Los Angeles where he won silver in the 750m time trial and team sprint and was eighth in the sprint.
Eder is one of 11 monthly senior winners who will be honoured at the awards function early next year at Kings at the Warwick RSL Memorial Club.
He receives $100 from the Warwick Credit Union for his monthly win.
