Cyclists galore in Warwick area this weekend

CANNINGVALE Rd residents will get an early morning chance on Saturday to watch some of the best women cyclists in Australia in the Brisbane Camperland Queensland Cycling Road Team Series.

The event has attracted more than 100 individual nominations who will ride in teams, just like in the Tour de France.

The women will start in East St outside Big W at 9.30am Saturday and head south to the Warwick-Killarney Rd, east towards Killarney and then return to the starting point via Canningvale Rd.

There will be a small window of opportunity for Canningvale Rd residents to watch the women as the first riders are expected back at the starting point at 9.50am to start their ride to Tannymorel, Emu Vale, Yangan and back to East St in Warwick via Jingarry Mt Sturt Rd, Junabee Rd, River Terrace and Percy St.

The Canningvale loop and one lap of the main course makes up the 78km women's ride.

The men's 130km event starts at 12.30pm Saturday and is two laps of the main course.

Projected times will vary depending on conditions and whether one team is endeavouring to break away from the peloton.

On Sunday, both the women's and men's teams will depart at four-minute intervals and ride in team formations along Albert Street, Dragon Street, Victoria St and Rosehill Road towards Allora and return to finish in Guy Street.

The first of the women's team will depart at 8am on an out-and-back 12km course. The men's teams will follow the women and compete over 20km.

On Sunday afternoon, there will be criterium races on a circuit taking in Guy St, Victoria St, Dragon St and Fitzroy St. A large field of 108 elite men will race for one hour at an average speed of 45-50 kmh.

Saturday Vantage points: Tannymorel 10.37am women, 1.13pm and 2.43pm men

Yangan 10.59am women, 1.33pm and 3.13pm men
