TODAY is D-Day for Destination Southern Downs, but despite a commitment by the council to have the organisation up and running, work is still underway on getting the new tourism body off the ground.
Mayor Peter Blundell had set down today as the first day of operation for the new organisation, but despite the goal - the organisation is yet to have a logo, permanent website or bank account.
Cr Blundell said it would be business as usual for the operation of Warwick Tourism and Events and Granite Belt Wine and Tourism as the new organisation Destination Southern Downs.
"Warwick Tourism and Events will not cease tomorrow," he said yesterday. "Given the financial commitments, the organisation will run on to allow finalisation of accounts and the final audit."
When asked if that meant the council would be funding and running two organisations, Cr Blundell pointed the Daily News towards previous council agendas and minutes.
"Council's funding commitment remains as budgeted for and is as per the recommendations of the council meeting," he said.
"The staffing issues were covered in a previous council report; the finances will become the responsibility of the new board; and the intellectual property of Warwick Tourism and Events flows into the new organisation."
Further questions to the mayor about what effects the transition had and the process going forward would be were also directed back to previous council agendas and minutes.
Services for Destination Southern Downs will be delivered from the Warwick and Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centres.
