Seniors postal over end to daily mail delivery
DAILY mail delivery in Toowoomba could become a thing of the past with Australia Post set to drastically reform its current services.
Australia Post announced reduced household deliveries could start from next year, stating the move was designed to reflect the accelerating decline in letter volumes.
The possibility of only three days of mail delivery a week or less across the region was met with mixed reaction.
Toowoomba Senior Citizens Club Treasurer Betty Thomas said changes to postal deliveries would be disappointing.
"There are a number of seniors in the community who rely on the postal service to receive important mail," Mrs Thomas said.

"Many do not have their head around the internet so traditional mail plays a bigger part in their lives.
"I think three days a week would be the minimum the postal service could be reduced to without it having a serious impact."
Owner of Toowoomba online marketing company 1300 Web Pro James Deck said he believed Australia Post's restructure of delivery services was a long time coming.
"The idea of a mail postal system is more than 100 years old and needs to be restructured to suit the needs of today's society," Mr Deck said.
"I believe a physical mail service is still very relevant. However, reducing delivery days makes plenty of sense.
"There are still plenty of legs left in a mail service, but changing the current model of five-day delivery is a smart move."
Letter traffic has reduced by 30% during the past five years with Australia Post CEO Ahmed Fahour adamant change had to occur.
"Losses in letters are now, for the first time, overwhelming the profits we make in parcels," Mr Fahour said.
"By making these changes now, we can minimise the impact for our people, our broader workforce, our business and the community."
