Angus wins eight Daily New Sport Star of the Month award

ANGUS Young has won his eighth successive Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Month award.

The Nobby sports star won his first monthly senior award in 2008 when he was third at the state championships in javelin and made the state team.

He has won monthly awards in curling and indoor bowls from 2009 to 2015 and has the record for the most monthly wins and most successive wins.

Late last year he won bronze in singles for the second successive year in indoor bowls at the nationals in Warrnambool, Victoria.

He was the best-placed Queenslander in the nationals after being in a winning state fours team last year.

Angus was selected as a reserve for the Australian Test team which competed in New Zealand.

"I enjoy meeting a lot of people in indoor bowls. I first played at age 12 and it is great to go from club level to national selection," he said.

"I like the travel and the culture in the sport. I can combine the curling and indoor bowls skills in both sports."

After not competing in curling last year, he is aiming to being part of a nationals winning team and then aim to help secure Australia a spot in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.

He won bronze in the Asia Pacific Championships in New Zealand in 2012.
