Caravan rolls down an embankment on Dalveen Hwy

A VICTORIAN man had a lucky escape when his vehicle, towing a caravan, rolled down an embankment on the New England Hwy near Dalveen.

At 1.30pm yesterday, the 70-year-old driver allegedly veered left off the road after the Granite Belt drive turn-off where the vehicle then rolled down the embankment into trees.

RACQ CareFlight flew the man to Toowoomba Base Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Friends travelling back from the Australian Caravan Club's National Muster at Beaudesert in a separate vehicle said they became worried when the man was no longer behind them.

Rob Tudor said they tried to contact him over two-way-radio before calling him.

"We were about to turn around when we saw a police car speed past," he said.

Before the man was airlifted, he requested his companions find the urn containing ashes of his deceased wife.
