Dance Studio celebrates top year

IT HAS been a very triumphant year for members of Inverness Highland Dance Studio, who concluded lessons last week for 2011.

Studio principal Marlene McBean said there were many events that stood out to make this year the absolute success it was.

"Some of the highlights include successfully conducting our fifth competition in Warwick and student Erin Walker winning the Moreton Bay Pre-Championships," she said.

"Amanda Kost-Ryan also placed sixth in the Moreton Bay Pre-Championship and Demi Quirk and Jazz Lane attained their premier level status."

Ms McBean herself also had a tremendous year, winning the South Queensland pre-championships.

The dance professional recommended the form of dance as an "excellent alternative form" of dance.

"For young girls especially if parents have concerns about skimpy costumes, layers of make-up and suggestive moves that seem to be a requirement of other dance forms, Highland dancing is wonderful," she said.

Inverness Highland Dance Studio students range in age from seven years to over 60s and take part in competitions, exams and displays.

The ladies class focuses on improving fitness levels and Ms McBean said she was seeking anyone who had learnt Highland in their younger years to join the social class Monday evenings.
