Dancers come home champions from city eisteddfods
HAIRSPRAY and jazz shoes; The students at The Dance Centre - Warwick have had a busy performance month as
dancers have travelled between Brisbane, Toowoomba and Stanthorpe.
They took part in two competitions on the weekend, the Brisbane Eisteddfod and Border District Eisteddfod.
For the third consecutive year TCD was open champions in the small group category with its jazz dance, Queen of the Night, while the open lyrical routine placed third and 15 years jazz also placed.
The group performed Queen of the Night for the first time at the 2017 Brisbane Eisteddfod in the 15 years category and it placed second.
Choosing to perform the dance again the studios director Leah Doherty said the girls had grown and "matured" their style.
"The dancers have matured in their technique and performance abilities and have been working beautifully as a team."
At the Border District Eisteddfod, soloists took home top awards.
Maddie Farrell won the most promising lyrical dancer and the open age aggregate trophies and Faith Kelly won most promising jazz dancer and 14 years aggregate trophies.
With 11 dancers entered in group and solo performances, the school achieved excellent results.
"We don't go to compete, we go to dance on beautiful stages and so the girls can have more performance experience, winning places and titles is just a bonus," Ms Doherty said.
The school offers classes in ballet, contemporary, lyrical, jazz and tap for dancers aged 3-17, as well as exams and performance groups.
