Sports shop expansion

HE HAS been the go-to man for sports equipment for 31 years and now Danny Lyons is expanding his Palmerin St sports shop another 20m.

Having outgrown his small store, Mr Lyons said rather than moving, he would make more room out back.

"Business has increased over the last few years and we've run out of room in here," Mr Lyons said.

The back area will be for storing stock, leaving the front of the shop more spacious for shoppers to browse and try on garments.

Mr Lyons is one man not afraid to sing the 'shop local' chorus and said the fact his business was growing was good news for the Southern Downs.

"It is (good news). I support a lot of the sporting clubs in town and supply their stuff so I think it's a good sign that we need more space," he said.

Construction is already underway, and the concrete slab is set to be poured today.

The project is scheduled to take 4-5 weeks.

Upon completion, shoppers will also notice a new coat of paint throughout the shop and new carpet underfoot.

"We've also got out new Tatts Lotto upgrade so we'll have a new colour scheme up front with the lotto," Mr Lyons said.
