Darkside lose in final showdown
THE O’Brien sisters, Jessica and Stephanie, were best on court as Hazards beat Darkside 47-18 in the major semi-final in A-grade netball on Tuesday night at WIRAC.
While much of Warwick was in darkness, the lights were on at WIRAC for the two semi finals.
Hazards are the defending premiers were and minor premiers this season.
In the minor semi-final, Cherry Bombers beat regular premiership winners Doorslammers 29-28.
The lead changed many times during the game. The score was 28-all with 30 seconds to go before Cherry Bombers shot the winning goal 10 seconds from fulltime.
Kirsty Russell was the top scorer in the game with 16 points.
Ashleigh Fearby led the way for the winners with 15.
The loss ends Doorslammers dreams of adding another premiership to a long list of successes in Warwick A-grade netball.
Junior representative player Elizabeth Cowley and Jess Thompson were outstanding at the defensive end for Cherry Bombers.
Susan Hounslow and Sandy Groves combined well in defence for Doorslammers.
Hazards have qualified for the September 12 grand final and will meet the winner of Monday night’s preliminary final between Darkside and Cherry Bombers. B and C-grade preliminary finals will also be played on Monday night.
Junior grand finals
GRAND finals in junior netball will be played at Barnes Park on Saturday.
At 2pm, Blue play White in the junior B-grade grand final. Blue and Pink meet in the junior A-grade grand final at 3pm. Midgets will play from 12.30pm to 2pm and fun net from 1.15pm to 2pm before the grand finals.
All 180 players will receive a trophy at the presentations from 4.15pm at Barnes Park on Saturday.
