Zoo opens up chance for night visits
VISITORS to the Darling Downs Zoo at Pilton will now have the opportunity to go on an evening tour of the zoo.
ZooFari is the latest attraction at the zoo, giving visitors a chance to book a guided tour of the zoo at night.
Owner Stephanie Robinson says ZooFari offers guests a unique experience.
"The animals are more active and vocal at night - especially the Australian natives and the big cats" she said.
"Guests will get the chance to hear the noises of the night."
ZooFari was something the Darling Downs Zoo had always wanted to do, Mrs Robinson said.
"We had a number of people asking us to start a night tour and so we thought we'd give it a go," she said.
ZooFari is just one of several exciting new developments at the zoo, with new exhibits on their way.
"We've just had a Serval come out of quarantine from New Zealand and she's been successfully introduced to our other Serval." Mrs Robinson said.
She also added that the zoo had 10 rare Mauritian tortoises in quarantine from their native home the tiny Indian Ocean island of Mauritius.
The zoo has experienced a number of births lately, including a baby Hamadryas baboon to a female imported from Warsaw Zoo in Poland.
"I always get asked how excited I am about the zoo babies and I always respond by saying it's both an exciting and incredibly stressful time for us as zoo owners," Mrs Robinson said.
ZooFari will run from October til April, with tickets starting from $60 for children and up to $100 for adults, which includes a barbecue dinner.
Tickets must be booked at least a week in advance, with a 20% deposit and a minimum tour group of four people required.
