Warwick Lure Coursing Club
Trial Secretary's Report October 29: After enduring low attendances for most of the year, club officials were delighted with the roll up of 25 dogs to greet the judge, Jeff Souter, from Brisbane, on October 29. Nine of the competitors were salukis, a breed renowned for its lure coursing ability, and in spite of the very warm weather, they all ran extremely well to accredit marks in the 80s for each run. But, the surprising group of canines was the Unregistered Section (which include pure bred, but not registered, and the not so pure-bred dogs.)
There were 15 of these and the top scores came from this group. Lilly, a parson russell terrier (forerunner breed of jack russell terriers) made the best point score of 176, but only after a "countback” (there were two others who gained 176 points but not in the most important areas of judging) Jeff announced that Lilly's run was the best of the three. Only one of the other two was a saluki.
The other was the great little kelpie Tex, owned locally by Terry Cole, and who only started lure coursing a month ago. Two regulars, dalmatians (unreg.) Bentley and Cleo also featured in the top 10 dogs of the day. Everyone had a wonderful time. The grounds were superb, having been mowed on Saturday by a team of volunteers, Carl Millen, Mark Freebairn, Lyn Crane and Peter and Sharon Briggs.
Many thanks to all of these and to the many other volunteers who "kept the gate”, ran the canteen, drove the motor bike, set the courses, acted as "huntsmaster”, tallied the scores and made the presentations. It was easily the best day that Warwick Lure Coursing Club has had this year. November 26 is the date of our next and last trial for the year. Dogs will only do one run, scores to be doubled for the usual tally out of 100.
The coursing will be followed by our Christmas Party. Everyone is asked to bring a plate of goodies, and enjoy a great end of season get-together. Phone Jan Walker on (07) 46615401 or
0432854 450.
