Date set for final farewell for Southern Downs church

A DATE has been set for the last worship service at St Luke's Anglican Church at Freestone.

Past and present parishioners are invited to attend the service this Saturday, March 31, at 6.30pm at the church on Paynes Rd.

The service of deconsecration will be held at St Luke's Anglican Church on Saturday, July 7, at 10am.

It will be the end of a long and cherished era for Freestone, but the community unanimously voted on November 11 to close the doors to the church due to a lack of support.

St Peter's Anglican Church at Yangan is also set to close.

Monthly services were held at both churches, but each church was only welcoming three or four people to a service.

Both buildings are expected to be listed on the local real estate market late this year.
