Davey on hunt for Wolves’ hat-trick
ROB Davey knows the way to the presentation dais at football banquets ... he has been there four times.
After winning two player of the year awards with the Warwick Wolves in Toowoomba football, he has won both awards in his first two seasons with the Wolves in the Stanthorpe competition.
He was presented with the award at the awards night last Saturday in Stanthorpe after starring in the midfield for the second-placed Wolves.
Rob has played every season since he was an under-6 player on the Southern Downs and isn't giving any thought to retirement.
"Oh yeah, I will go for three in a row next season," he said.
He admits to playing only one game of his career as goalie.
"I had an injury and played in goal against a Japanese team," he said.
Before he thinks about next year, Rob is aiming to be part of the first Warwick Wolves team to win a men's premiership at Stanthorpe.
"We are pretty confident after beating leaders United 3-1 a week ago," he said.
United beat Warwick in last year's grand final and the Wolves will finish second behind the premiers after fixtures end this weekend.
Warwick is at home to Carlton and will play United in the major semi-final the following weekend.
Down the years, Rob has combined a lot on the field with his brother Cameron who alternates from attack to defence, depending on what the team needed.
He also has a close combination with long-time teammate Dom Benz at the Wolves.
Rob has received plenty of support from coaches but lists Gary Scott as one to have a major impact.
