David has a sharpened eye for quality cattle
WARWICK cattleman David Bartley sure has an eye for a quality beast.
For three years he's been sharpening his eye for cattle, and it's paid off in a big way.
David has been awarded one of the major prizes at the National Santa Gertrudis Youth Camp at Morgan Park - young judge's champion.
It's an award he certainly wasn't expecting.
According to David, it's all about watching and learning along the way.
"If you get in with some of the big guys in the breeds they'll help you," he said.
"They've given me a few tips along the way."
When judging, David said he preferred a large, slow maturing bull in hot, rugged country and a sturdier, stronger bull over weaner calves.
An eager cattle exhibitor, David will now turn his attention to preparing for the long show season ahead.
He's hoping to back up on a successful 2015, which saw him win a number of major awards with his speckle park cattle.
