Davis has led the Animals well in first season as leader

SOVEREIGN Animals are in a battle for fifth with Railway Hotel Rascals and Allora in Condamine Cup cricket after a two-wicket win against Rascals at Mayhew Oval.

Rascals were fifth going into last weekend's round but Sovereign has moved closer to fifth after the win.

Sovereign denied Rascals another point by winning with two wickets in hand. Teams get one point for dismissing the opposition.

Some strong performances this season by Sovereign have been a credit to first-season captain Cahal Davis, who is not long out of juniors.

Davis, the Daily News Weekend Warrior, has bowled well in both club and Davis Shield cricket, often in tandem with another young gun Caleb King.

On Saturday, Brad Johnson top scored with 32 in the Rascals total of 146. Davis took 4-27 off seven overs.

Sovereign scored 8-150 to win, Luke Cullen top scored with 35 and Jon Millard took 4-18 off eight overs for Rascals.
