Davis Shield team has high hopes for future
HOWZAT with Michael Bourke
THIS week saw an Indian domestic cricketer break new boundaries with a triple century in a T20 game.
Mohit Ahlawat scored 300 off 72 balls which included 39 sixes, which helped his side Maavi reach 2-416 off their 20 overs.
While Ahlawat might consider his innings a good fortune it was not such good news for a fellow Indian who scored 303 not out in the last Test against England. Ajiinka Rahane has now been dropped for the next Test match against Bangladesh.
I remember the Aussie selectors dropping Jason Gillespie after a double century and Martin Love after a century.
Davis Shield future
The Warwick Davis Shield side might have missed out on winning the final last Sunday but I get the feeling this group of players will win a Davis Shield in the next couple of years and then go on to claim a Mitchell Shield title.
A number of these teenagers gained valuable finals experience on Sunday. One only has to look at the Lockyer side that defeated Stanthorpe in the Mitchell Shield final to realise players go up from Davis to Mitchell. The Lockyer team comprised players mainly in their early 20s who graduated from Davis Shield.
Horse tip
My tip for the CF Orr Stakes on Saturday at Caulfield is Black Heart Bart.
