DC golf day not just about golf

CLEAR skies and sunshine at the weekend made the Big W Distribution Centre's Charity Golf Day a great success, with 140 people raising funds for the Royal Children's Hospital.

On Saturday, the 35 teams went through the 18-hole course in a four-man ambrose format.

Along with the golfing and socialising, there was a putting competition, a halfway house with a sausage sizzle, and raffles.

Golfing prizes included awards for the best gross, the best nett and five rundown winners.

There was an array of other recognitions as well, such as the player with the heaviest pins or the longest drive.

As a thank you, each participant also received a gift pack for their support.

Big W DC manager Stephen Gray said the charity day was an important event that helped a great cause.

"Like most sporting things in a small town, golfing is also a way to get the community together," he said.
