COMMENT: Deadly infection no match for young Dylan
WHEN we at the Daily News heard reports of a meningococcal case at the Warwick Hospital, we all started to think the worst.
Who was the person battling such a dreadful illness and were they going to make it?
Meningococcal is one of those illnesses that are instantly related to death and disfigurement.
So often a diagnosis of the deadly disease ends with tragic results.
The Australian Health Department reports that up to one in 10 patients with invasive meningococcal disease in Australia dies.
Of those who survive, one in 30 has severe skin scarring or loss of limbs, and one in 30 has severe brain damage.
Fortunately, as more details of the latest Warwick case came to light, we learned Dylan Galloway was making a remarkable recovery.
Now out of hospital, it seems he is on the way to a full recovery.
It is wonderful to see him doing so well and his loved ones have commended Warwick Hospital, and in particular Dr James Ware, for taking such good care of him.
They say the treatment they received is why Dylan is now doing so well.
Well done to all who were involved in recognising the severity of his symptoms and helping prevent the infection becoming something life-threatening.
Get well soon, Dylan.
