Debutante wins golden gloves title under Rose City banner
BOXING: Rose City boxer Harry Pyne has won a state golden gloves title in his first fight.
Pyne is a student at Assumption College and won the state golden gloves title on points in the 56kg division.
Club trainer Damien Lawler said Pyne fought really well in his debut.
"He showed true aggression, went forward from the start and took control of his opponent from Smithy's Gym,” Lawler said.
Pyne trained each weekday at the gym for the past six months to prepare for his boxing debut.
Fellow Assumption student Jake Wyllie won gold with a win in the final of the 64kg division.
He won with a TKO after one minute of the first round of his fight.
"Jake was dominant from the first second of the fight,” Lawler said.
Joshua Hargrave had three fights at the Queensland Golden Gloves.
The Rose City boxer won his first two fights but lost the final in 75kg super middleweight division to win silver.
"In my opinion, Joshua won the first two rounds but his New Zealand opponent won the third and the fight,” Lawler said.
"It is one of those fights that could have gone either way,” Lawler said.
