Decision time for showgirls

JANITA Volker has gone from the snow slopes of New South Wales to being pretty in pink and preparing for the 2010 Warwick Showgirl Ball tonight.

Janita, 27, who recently moved up from the snow down south, was excited to be a part of the fantastic experience of the Warwick Show after being a keen supporter on the sidelines for many years.

“I just think it’s a fantastic experience; you get to meet all different people when you are trying to fundraise,” she said.

She loves the Rose City and no matter how many plans she makes to leave, she always gets drawn back to the rodeo city and can’t wait to be a bigger part of the show action this year.

“I just want to learn how to be a better person through meeting all different people – you gain a bit from everyone,” Janita said.

The snow-skiing fan doesn’t mind a bit of action as she lists the smash-up derby as her favourite event at the annual show, which she describes as “ridiculously fun”.

She is ready to face the judges this afternoon so they can announce the Warwick Showgirl and Warwick Junior Showgirl at the Show Ball tonight.

The theme this year by the ladies’ auxiliary is Pretty in Pink and member Nancy Gross encouraged Rose City residents to come and enjoy the show.

“We thought we would do something a bit different for the theme,” Mrs Gross said as she decorated the hall. “We like to make it (the hall) look nice for the girls; they make a big effort to dress up and we want to make it nice for them.”

The girls will arrive at 4pm for their interview with the judges and will then take the stage for a few words before the judges announce the winners.

Tickets for adults are $32 and $16 for children and are available at the show office or at the door tonight at the Douglas Feez Pavilion, Warwick Showgrounds, starting at 6.30pm.

“We encourage everyone to come down for a great night, great music, with beautiful food in a beautifully decorated hall,” Mrs Gross said.
