Defending champions win again in Warwick carnival
CRICKET: Stunned Mullets and Digglers retained the Warwick Cricket Association carnival titles this afternoon.
In the main competition final, Stunned Mullets batted first and scored 178 in their 20 overs. Lachlan Gross top scored with 67 and Nathan Case made 51.
Hulk's made 109 after getting behind the run rate and being 6-89 in the 14th over.
Andrew Ryan made 34, including a great straight six, and Paul Cantwell scored 24.
Steve Hawthorne was the best bowler for Stunned Mullets with 3-17 while Leighton Skirrow took 2-19 and Ben Gross 2-27.
In the social competition final, Hurricanes Elite made 80 with team mentor Dave Hallman suggested that was 20 under what would have given his side a realistic chance. Jason Bradfield made 34 and Dennis Bohm 25. Steve Gander, Mark Gillespie and Ken Gee took two wickets each.
In reply, Digglers were 2-7 before reaching 8-81 and victory when captain Darren Costello took a single. Gillespie hit 25 and Dion Galloway 21 after hitting 90 off 27 balls earlier in the carnival.
It was Digglers' 20th year in the carnival.
Mark Fowler took 4-7 off his 2.2 overs to prove his value as a bowler for Hurricanes.
