Delissa make a choice between her main sports
CRICKET: Warwick all-rounder Delissa Kimmince is planning to concentrate on cricket in 2018 after playing both cricket and AFL this year.
After last playing cricket for Australia in 2014, Kimmince was called up for the three T20 games in the Ashes series which finished on Tuesday night in Canberra.
"I was thrilled to get the phone call that I was selected for the T20 series. I was not expecting a call up at all,” she said.
"I was nice to play in all three games.”
After taking a key wicket in game one of the T20 series and being equal second top scorer for Australia in game two, Kimmince bowled the 19th over as the Australian Southern Stars went down by four wickets to England in the final game in Canberra.
Australia and England shared the Ashes series but as the holders of the Ashes, Australia holds on to the little urn as the series of one-day and T20 games and one Test was shared.
In game three on Tuesday night, Australia batted first to score 2-178, Beth Mooney remaining not out 117 after hitting the final four balls of the innings to the boundary.
Kimmince didn't get a chance to bat but bowled as fifth change and took 2-30 off three overs, the second best figures of the innings.
She was entrusted with the 19th over of the innings on Tuesday night with England needing seven to win and bowled Danni Wyatt, who scored 100, with her first ball.
The winning runs were scored off the last ball in an over where England scored 10 runs, including a lucky four off the edge.
This year, Kimmince started the WAFL season late with the Brisbane Lions but made her debut in the WAFL for a team which made the grand final in the inaugural season.
She said it was just too hard to mix cricket and AFL.
"I missed all of the pre-season this year with the Lions due to cricket and then the WAFL season is so short,” she said.
"I would love to keep playing for the Lions but the team is better off with a young girl in the squad.”
As for the future, Kimmince will play for the Brisbane Heat in the Women's Big Bash League in the T20 format.
There are some T20 internationals in March and the T20 World Cup at the end of next year and Kimmince is hoping to wear the green and gold of Australia again.
"I will be pushing for selection,” she said.
"I would like to think my name will be up there but realise I have to perform in the Big Bash.”
Before Kimmince thinks about the Big Bash League next month, she will play for the Queensland Fire in two Women's National Cricket League games this weekend.
Kimmince, Mooney and fellow Australian T20 player Jess Jonassen are in the Fire team to play two games at Frankston in Victoria.
They play South Australia on Saturday and Tasmania on Monday. The Fire are desperate to win after going down in their first two games this season.
