Denny goes gold at titles

ALLORA athlete Matt Denny broke records in the 15 years discus and hammer throws and shot put in winning three gold medals at the Queensland Secondary School Track and Field Championship late last month in Brisbane.

Denny now boards at Toowoomba Grammar School after first rising to prominence in athletics while at Allora State School.

Allora State School student Jack Banninster won the 13 years discus at the state championships with a distance of 47 metres.

He threw a personal best of 50.3m in winning the event at the Darling Downs regional trials.

Bannister made a state shot put final for the first time to finish eighth.

Denny and Bannister have qualified for the nationals on December 3-4 in Brisbane.

Both won national medals last year.

Brodie Sharman, of Allora State School, was sixth in 15 years shot, fourth in discus and also competed in the 100m.

Former Allora State School student Matthew Kanowski won the 18/19 years discus.

Matthew is now a student at The Scots PGC College. His sister Clare also competed in the state championships.

On the local athletics scene, the Warwick Little Athletics Centre will compete in the regional relay finals at the athletics oval in O'Quinn St, Toowoomba, on Saturday.

Weekly Warwick competitions resume on November 12 at 8.30am at Hamilton Oval.

While numbers in little athletics have doubled this year, prospective new members are still welcome on November 12.
