Dentists fill the gap

DENTISTS have sunk their teeth into Warwick permanently, with Granite Belt Dental surgery now sporting three resident dentists who are filing down waiting times.

Owner Michael Letters said he realised Warwick needed more dentists and sought to solve the problem.

"We noticed a real need in Warwick, which is why we opened the practice. It's gratifying that we were correct in identifying that need and we've been able to address it," Mr Letters said.

What was formerly a one-man surgery has gone to three in 18 months.

He said a national trend was developing across the country that needed rectifying.

"The big trend that we've seen Australia-wide is that there is a shortage of dentists in rural areas and we are actively engaged in fixing that in the Granite Belt and Southern Downs," Mr Letters said.

Practice manager Fiona Taylor said waiting times for patients had reduced considerably and client feedback had been positive.

"We've had really good feedback, a lot of people have even come from other surgeries because they can get straight in here and don't have to travel to Toowoomba," Ms Taylor said.

One client, Michael Grew, said he was pleased with the immediacy of appointments.

"I had a temporary crown that came off and they had me in the next day, so it was very quick and no dramas," Mr Grew said.

"It's no problem getting in, especially compared to what it was years ago in Warwick."

The practice has had an influx of patients since the staff expansion.
