Development approvals on the rise

DEVELOPMENT approvals are on the rise on the Southern Downs, with a 32% lift in residential lot approvals between the fourth quarter of 2013 and 2014.

In the year up to the December-quarter of 2014, 237 lots had been approved for residential development - compared with 180 in the previous 12 months. The December quarter was the busiest, with 106 approvals.

The number of approvals is the third highest since 2007, and well above the dismal 36 approvals in 2012.

While the news is good, it's still a far cry from the record set in 2011 with 1120 lots.

The Daily News asked the council for a rundown of development applications and approvals in the 2014/15 financial year, but was told the figures wouldn't be available until after the annual report was released.
