Development brings jobs and industry
WHILE the Bunnings relocation from its Palermin St address to a vacant Canning St lot has been met with mixed reviews, the scale of its upgrade is slowly being revealed.
A Bunnings spokeswoman said the move was set to be a $16 million investment, offer over 140 construction jobs and hire 50 new staff members.
The Palmerin St Bunnings currently employees 40 people, with the spokeswoman saying the business would be seeking "50 new positions above the current team".
The Town Planning report for the new Bunnings building showed "the larger store will improve on the existing hardware and home improvement offer that is currently available to the residents of the immediate area and surrounds."
The planned Bunnings is set to stand 11m tall and have a total retail area of 7,178.5sqm. This will comprise a main warehouse, timber trade sales, bagged goods canopy, outdoor nursery, main entry and ancillary outdoor display areas.
The outdoor nursery is set to take up a whopping 623.4sqm and will feature 97 on-site car parks and 55 street parks.
The council's park policy requires parking to provided at no less than two spaces her 100sqm.
The stores opening hours will be significantly increased, going from its current 6.30am to 6.30pm trade to 6am to 9pm, seven days a week.
Southern Downs Regional Council Planning and Development manager Cecil Barnard said the Canning St lot was currently under contract, while the the plans were pending approval.
The roads on Canning and Condamine Sts are set to be improved with the development, however there are no plans of traffic lights on the corner of Victoria and Albion Sts.
General Manager, Property for Bunnings Andrew Marks said plans were still being finalised.
"This development is in the very early stages of planning and we look forward continuing to work with authorities throughout the process to bring jobs, investment and an even wider range of home improvement and outdoor living products to the Warwick community," he said.
