Diamonds in her eyes

ALLORA netballer Laura Geitz is in camp with the Australian Diamonds squad of 22 at the Australian Institute of Sport in the first steps of the road to the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Australian coach Norma Plummer, who will keep a watchful eye over the Diamonds in the coming days, will name a 15-player squad on Monday, after the camp.

Teams of 12 (which will be selected from the squad of 15) will contest the Holden Netball Test Series in Australia and the New World International Series in New Zealand.

Each player in the squad is expected will have an opportunity to play in the six internationals.

The Commonwealth Games squad of 12 to play in Delhi, India, on October 3-14 will be chosen from the squad of 15 announced on Monday. Australia and New Zealand are the favourites to win the gold and silver medals at Delhi.

Holden Netball Test Series: Diamonds v Jamaica: August 8, Melbourne; August 11, Sydney; August 15, Gold Coast. Diamonds v New Zealand: August 29, Adelaide.

New World International Netball Series: Diamonds v New Zealand: September 2, Wellington; September 5, Auckland.
