Diggers beat Allora

STEVE Martin took 5-38 off nine overs to help RSL Diggers secure a nine-run victory against Allora at Allora yesterday.

The win boosts the Diggers confidence going into the finals series in A-grade this weekend.

Batting first, Diggers were dismissed for 140, Col O’Brien top scoring with 24, Brett McEvoy and Martin both making 20.

Travis McMicking was the best of the Allora bowlers with 4-34 and Andrew Peterson took 3-43.

Allora lost wickets regularly before Andrew Peterson and McMicking added 50 for the seventh wicket to give their side hope.

Martin returned to the bowling crease to bowl Peterson and also dismissed the number 10 batsman to ensure a narrow victory.

A feature of the match was the fielding of Chris McEvoy who took two diving catches at mid wicket for the winning side as well as taking 2-39 off 10 overs.

Simon Crestani took one wicket at the end to finish with 2-12 off five economical overs.
