Diggers dig in for the win

THE RSL Diggers have championed over Maryvale in round seven of the Condamine Cup at the weekend.

Diggers won by three wickets, with a total of seven wickets for 200 runs at Slade Park.

It was a close game, with Maryvale scoring nine wickets for 198 runs.

Maryvale batted first and got off to a flying start, with a solid opening partnership of 36 between Jason Steketee and Luke Costello.

Another good partnership with Costello and Kevin Bourke put on 67 runs, while Tom Campbell and Kieran Bourke batted well at the end, putting on 32.

Maryvale player Andy Ryan said the team did the best they could.

"We lost one wicket and then the next two batters put on about 50 or 60 runs," he said.

"After that we just lost wickets consistently and ended up bowled out.

"Once you lose momentum it's hard to get going again.

"We just didn't score enough runs to catch up."
