Diggers sneak home against Beefeaters in cricket final
CRICKET: Sean Bryson was player of the final as the Warwick Sand and Gravel Diggers beat Gross Meats Beefeaters in a tight Warwick under-15 cricket grand final at Slade Park.
The Beefeaters loss ended a winning streak of eight successive U15 grand final successes.
Batting first, Beefeaters made 84. Mitch Scheiwe top scored with 12 with Lachlan Boal and Jacob Gross each scored 11. Sean Bryson took 3-8 off two overs to be the best bowler for Diggers.
Diggers scored the winning runs with the last two batsmen at the wicket. Josh Hagenbach hit a four to win the game and take his score to 19 not out.
Cooper Tate-Roche top scored with 26. Cayleb Fidge took 2-3 off two overs to be the best Beefeaters bowler.
Tate-Roche scored the most runs for the season in U15 cricket with 444 and Lincoln Hay was the most successful bowler with 16 wickets.
In the U12 grand final, Archie Ryan was player of the match as his team Taipans beat Kookaburras at the Queens Park Synthetic.
Batting first, Taipans scored 85 with Jayden Munro top scoring with 13. Archie Ryan was six not out.
Kookaburra were dismissed for 61 with Tom Doherty top scoring with nine. Archie took Tom's wicket to give Taipans the upper hand.
Archie Ryan and Jack Ragh took each two wickets and Lucy Bourke finished with three catches, including the one to dismiss Tom Doherty at deep square leg.
Jayden Munro scored the most U12 runs, 233, for the season and Lucy Bourke took the most wickets, 13.
Warwick junior cricket Breed a Bull bursaries were presented to Sean Bryson, Jayden Fidge, Lucy Bourke and Will Ole at the same presentation at which Tanya Gross was presented with life membership of Warwick junior cricket.
