Digital Stig can be raced down Gamers get to race a legend
SOME SAY there should be a new way of introducing him, others say he's nothing but a figment of imagination, but all we know is that he's called the Stig's digital cousin.
And some say this one can actually be beaten.
Rev-heads around the globe are watching the exclusive new video promoting the Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One game which was filmed in our very own backyard.
Behind the locked gates of Morgan Park Raceway earlier this month BBC Worldwide and Xbox collaborated a digital cousin for the Stig who will make his debut in Forza Motorsport 5 on November 22.
In the video launched yesterday the Stig's digital cousin can be seen clocking up some perfect lap times around Morgan Park Raceway in the Xbox sponsored V8 Supercar, while the Xbox One Racing Team have their back turned.
Unlike the real-life Stig, it's rumoured for the very first time ever this will be a more fallible Stig and can be beaten - but only if you're really good.
The Xbox One Racing Team V8 Supercar was secretly built earlier this year in Triple Eight Race Engineering's Brisbane headquarters and will make its debut in tomorrow's Bathurst 1000.
European drivers Andy Priaulx, a three-times world touring car champion, and Mattias Ekstrom, a two-times German DTM champion will be behind the wheel.
The video has been released ahead of the great race because gamers will get the chance to race the Xbox One car around a virtual Mount Panorama in Forza Motorsport 5.
Southern Downs Regional Council mayor Peter Blundell said the film clip looked absolutely brilliant.
"What a coup for Morgan Park to have this aired during the most watched motorsport event in Australia and televised in many countries around the world," Cr Blundell said.
"It is fantastic council could assist the Morgan Park team at short notice to make this a reality and now put this on the world stage.
"Hopefully this will show we are here ready for business for any other interested parties."
Cr Blundell said he hoped in the future Warwick may have a V8 Supercar team based here.
"That would be great, but who knows? At least we were on the front foot to make the most of the opportunity."
Unfortunately, Morgan Park Raceway was only used for the filming of the online promotional video and will not feature in Forza Motorsport 5.
The video has gone viral with an audience of over 13 million on Facebook alone.
The promotional video was originally planned to be filmed on the Gold Coast at the Holden Driving Centre in a deal brokered by racing legend Mark Skaife, however, was turned away by Gold Coast City Council.
It was speculated Jeremy Clarkson would be behind the wheel of the V8 Supercar, however he was in Italy when the film was being shot.
Morgan Park Raceway president Bill Campbell said throughout the process he was sworn to secrecy by the organisers, however, afterwards they phoned to thank him.
So who was playing the Stig's digital cousin? Some rumours have speculated the driving style looked very similar to Triple Eight racer Jamie Whincup, but Triple Eight Race Engineering said none of their drivers were behind the wheel.
