Ding dong, sales gong calling for our Luitha

A ROSE City Avon representative who has been selling products for nearly 30 years has been named among the top 40 sellers in Australia.

Veteran Avon representative Luitha Pike, who sold $98,000 worth of products last financial year, will join the top sellers on an all-expenses paid trip to Port Douglas next week.

"I was number 39 out of more than 50,000," she said.

"I couldn't believe it."

From Tuesday next week, Luitha and the other sellers will be staying in the Sheraton Hotel - a reward for their hard work.

Luitha has come a long way in 30 years, beginning her Avon quest two years after emigrating from Africa.

"I first started walking around the block, and then I started riding a bicycle," she said.

"I was turning over $50,000 on a motorbike before finally upgrading to a car."

In the early days of Avon the company sold just cosmetics and fragrances, but has since expanded into clothing, shoes and jewellery.

"Anyone who has Avon from long ago will buy it forever," Luitha said.

"I see up to 160 clients in two weeks - I just keep knocking on doors and being persistent."

When the month's catalogues come out, the 72-year-old is flat out distributing them and seeing her beloved clients.

"You get used to it - you just do it," she said.

"Along the line I've met many lovely people."

Standing in front of a cabinet with statues given to her by the company after making $27,000 in one year, Luitha said she leads a busy life.

"I'm not at home much," she said. "I play tennis twice a week."
