Businesses come up with novel fundraiser for SunnyKids
HERE'S a unique fundraising idea that's connecting a new group of business people and there's not a golf day or business network in sight.
Not-for-profit SunnyKids launched its P100 initiative at the Big Kart Track last week.
Track owner Ferre De Deyne was one of a founding group of 10 business people who came up with the idea for the scheme last December.
That group sent invitations to their network and invited others to sign up to the scheme, which sees $100 per month direct debited and put towards the operational costs of SunnyKids.
"They will invite like-minded people they've done business with and the group will have similar values in business and what it means to be successful in the community - they know it's not about what you earn, it's what you do with it," business development manager Rachael Witton said.
"They don't want to be giving an on-the-spot donation. That (type of donation) is fine, but this way they are connected to the cause.
"There's only so many golf days and chook raffles you can do.
"And the difference it makes is significant. Funds from this go towards the business of running SunnyKids, keeping the doors open and the lights on."
Ms Witton said SunnyKids' other fundraising initiatives would fund the organisation's frontline services to support at-risk children and their families.
She said the cause had so far attracted 30 registrations, and many in the group had ended up doing business together as an unexpected spin-off.
"I am proud to be a founding member of SunnyKids P100 where the same values I have in my business contribute to the Sunshine Coast community," DBA Property director Danny Buxton said.
"It is important for successful businesses to give back to the community, and there is no better cause to support than local Sunshine Coast families."
Mr De Deyne said: "Charity starts in our own backyard. Let's solve the problems of the future today, by helping those kids in need of some guidance right here on our great Sunshine Coast."
