Direct flights to Melbourne and Cairns announced

DIRECT flights from Toowoomba to Melbourne are now a reality.

Regional airline Airnorth Australia announced today it would commence direct flights from Wellcamp Airport to Melbourne and Cairns from March 14 next year.

The new service will operate as full service flights in the airline's state-of-the-art 76 seat Embraer 170 jet.

Seven return services will operate per week between Toowoomba and Melbourne and three return services per week between Toowoomba and Cairns.

Airnorth CEO Daniel Bowden said the initiative provided a much needed direct link for residents of Toowoomba and surrounding regions to Melbourne and Cairns for both business and leisure travellers.

Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport general manager Phil Gregory welcomed the announcement.

"The new flights will also allow passengers from the Toowoomba region to easily connect onto international and other domestic services via Cairns or Melbourne," he said.

"Airnorth is the leading Airline in Northern Australia and Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport is delighted to welcome them on board.

"We are extremely excited to be able to offer our customers direct return flights to two of Australia's premier travel destinations."
