"Ability, not disability" theme of this year's Action Week

DISABILITY Action Week is under way and this year's theme of "ability, not disability" promises a calendar of fast-paced action for participants.

Swimming, bowling, golf, line dancing and balloon art are just some of the activities taking place across the region during the celebrations.

WIRAC aquatics co-ordinator Karen Peters said a Disability Action Week committee had been working since February to organise the calendar of events.

Mrs Peters said the group included people from various organisations across the region.

"Everyone has contributed great ideas and we're pleased with the week of events, centred around WIRAC and other local venues," she said.

Mrs Peters said one in five Queenslanders had a disability of some kind, and disability touched the lives of most Queenslanders in some way.

"Disability Action Week encourages positive attitudes towards people with a disability and promotes improved access to the wider community," she said.

"We all have a role in creating a truly welcoming and inclusive community, from businesses and government to community organisations and individuals," she said.

Today's activity is a golf day at the Warwick Golf Club from 1-6pm.
