Disco fever strikes New Year runners

RUNNERS sparkled, glitzed and glamoured their way along the Condamine River for the New Year's Day Disco Fever parkrun on Thursday, running into 2015 in style.

Forty-six runners, pram-riders and park-pooches pounded the pavement along the river, to welcome another year of parkrun fun.

Organisers were thrilled with the turnout - both those costumed and not.

"It was wonderful to see so many people starting out the New Year in such a positive manner," Linda Coombes said.

"A huge thanks goes to our volunteers who started the New Year by giving to others the gift of a parkrun.

"Thankyou Katharine on stopwatch, Tom on tokens, Oscar on barcode scanning, Toni as marshal and Julia and Ned making sure everyone came home ok as tail runners."

The group welcomed parkrun tourists from neighbouring parkruns in Toowoomba and Stanthorpe, as well as further afield from Curl Curl.

"The humid weather and perhaps a few celebratory New Year's Eve beverages slowed a few runners' times but fun was had by all," Mrs Coombes said.

"A few pooches made the most of the fresh in the river and more than a few runners wished they could join them for a dip."

Parkrun kicks off every Saturday at 6.45am for a 7am start behind the Rugby Union field on the river pathway.
