Disco goes high-tech
PLAYING their mates in Playstation games Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk in between sweaty sessions on the dance floor - parents will find it hard to drag away their kids from tomorrow evening's Blue Light disco.
With the arrival of a new trailer (or mobile entertainment recreational vehicle) this week, each disco will now have three Playstations and plasma televisions, as well as audio equipment and associated lighting.
There will also be a projector to play video clips of songs.
Warwick Police Constable Kirstyn Lister said the new trailer had been supplied by the Blue Light Association based in Brisbane.
"Previously we were using the Leyburn trailer," she said.
"In it is all the stuff we need and on one side it has three big plasma screen televisions for the kids to all play.
"It's good to have our own one now."
Const Lister said she hoped the new games and televisions would be a novelty at the Blue Light discos.
"Hopefully, it will attract more kids and more volunteers with it," she said.
"Kids will be able to play each other ... or play me if they want to get beaten."
Those who behave well at the disco will have first priority with the games.
Tomorrow's Blue Light disco will be the first held at the new venue, Warwick Indoor and Recreational Aquatic Centre (WIRAC), from 6pm-9pm.
Children aged 6-14 years are welcome to attend and should wear soft-soled shoes so the floors at WIRAC don't get scratched.
