Discussions examine the future of Queensland

INDUSTRY and community leaders charged with the task of helping map Queensland's future have gathered for the first time ahead of the next summit in Mackay.

The contingent of industry, business and community figures workshopped throughout Tuesday afternoon in Brisbane on where they would like to see their state in 30 years.

It comes just over a week before 400 Queenslanders, including MPs, community representatives and industry leaders, descend on Mackay for the LNP Government's 30-year plan summit.

The outcome of Tuesday's discussion and process will be taken north next week.

Premier Campbell Newman said the 30-year blueprint was separate to the highly publicised Commission of Audit.

"The Commission of Audit is about a year and now in the state's finances and going forward the next five to eight years," he said.

"That is not what this process is all about.

"The Commission of Audit is not something we see being implemented by this 30-year plan."

Environment and Heritage Protection Minister Andrew Powell said Tuesday was also about trailing the process to be used at the Mackay Summit.

"What we are doing today is trialling the process and also at the same time getting some input from the industry associations that can help us direct where the summit and Mackay goes," he said.

"Ultimately that directs where we as a community go in terms of developing this vision."

The summit will be held in Mackay next Friday, May 10.

Another Summit will be held in Brisbane in October before the Queensland Plan is released at the end of the year.
