Divers scour river for murder clues
A TEAM of four police divers has begun a search of the Macintyre River at Goondiwindi as part of the investigation into the suspected murder of 24-year-old Alexis Jeffery.
The team started scouring the muddy depths about 1pm yesterday.
Regional crime co-ordinator for southern region Detective Superintendent Dave Isherwood said detectives and homicide squad officers had been investigating the information received since the mother-of-three's body was found on March 16.
She was last seen alive in the town's CBD about 3.30am that day.
Police believe she was walking home when she was attacked.
Det. Supt. Isherwood said about seven calls had been made to the Crime Stoppers number, but more information was needed for a breakthrough to occur.
The cause of Ms Jeffery's death was still being determined.
Tributes have been left on the riverbank behind the town's community centre, where Ms Jeffery's body was found.
Online messages detailing grief have been left on a Facebook page dedicated to Ms Jeffery's memory.
"Put flowers where you were found last night," one tribute read.
"Felt like you were laughing at me for doing it.
"Made it so much more real but I will never ever forget you, just save me a rum when I join you later on in life.
"I miss you lexii always will. R.I.P."
