Hundreds of violent partners defying DV court orders
WARWICK residents are being urged to dob in domestic violence thugs as more perpetrators disregard protection orders issued by our courts.
DVO breaches are rising across the Darling Downs police district, despite a stronger community, legal and government focus on the epidemic stalking our homes.
An APN Newsdesk analysis of police data reveals Warwick and Toowoomba family violence perpetrators ignored court orders 368 times from mid-February to mid-July this year.
It was an increase of 91 breaches on the same period last year when 277 were recorded.
Queensland Police urged Warwick residents to 'fess up about perpetrators who disregarded DVOs.
"The Queensland Police Service would encourage people to report breaches of domestic and family violence," a QPS spokeswoman said.
"Victim safety is already a priority consideration for police responding to incidents of domestic and family violence.
"Perpetrators of domestic violence are being held accountable for their actions."
The Darling Downs had the state's sixth lowest number of breaches across Queensland's 15 police districts.
Statewide there were 6936 breaches over the period - an increase of 899 on mid-February to mid-July 2014.
Minister for Women Shannon Fentiman sent a strong message to the region's family assault perpetrators. The increase "is extremely concerning," Ms Fentiman said.
"Violence against women in all its forms is utterly and completely unacceptable and I believe we need everyone in the community to send that message strongly."
