NSW might not be having much luck against the Queenslanders on the rugby league oval, but at Rappville on the weekend the southern state scored a victory in the State of Origin Dog Trial.

The village hosted the event for the first time in a decade.

Organiser Geoff McLennan said it was good to see NSW have a win.

"Thankfully one of the Queensland blokes had a bad run, so NSW managed to get through with a win," he said.

As well as the State of Origin, the weekend included novice and open dog trials.

Co-organiser Janelle McLennan said it had been a successful event.

"We had a lot of spectators," Ms McLennan said.

"The open dog section was won by Dick Chapman with his dog, Sting."

Second place went to Jamie Shipman, while Dick Chapman and Steve Flatley shared equal third place.

Mr Chapman cleaned up with fifth place in the open section as well, with his dog Sid.

"Dick is a pre-eminent dog trialler and one of the nation's best," she said.

"He's modest about his success, but has a lot of good dogs."
