Door wide open for recruits in Warwick touch
TOUCH: Come on down is the word from Warwick Touch Association president Justin Nolan as he gears up for the first season of 2017.
Nolan said last season, the association had a record five grades and 41 teams in mixed touch.
"We will decide how many grades this season when nominations come in,” he said.
"There will be at least four grades.
"While most of the nominations will be of teams, individuals who nominate will be placed in teams which need extra players.
"The competitions becomes more social as we go down the grades. Boys are able to play as women in the mixed competition until the age of 13.”
Six players are on the field at all times, half men and half women.
Prospective players are welcome at the sign-on at the AFL clubhouse from 6.30pm this Wednesday.
Fixtures start Wednesday next week and games will be on the touch, Suburbs and Collegians fields at St Mark's Oval in Jackie Howe Dr.
"At times, we play games on Aussie rules, rugby union and Cowboys rugby league fields,” Nolan said.
Games are played in one-hour time slots and will be held on each Wednesday except on State of Origin nights and during school holidays.
Some Warwick players will take the chance this year to vie for state and national selection in the National Touch Rugby Association.
Warwick players have travelled to New Zealand and Fiji in recent years to play for Australian teams.
Anyone interested is welcome at the sign-on on Wednesday. More information on touch registration from Justin Nolan on 0401323076.
