Netball: Doorslammers face off against Hazzards
NETBALL: A tight game is expected as Doorslammers and Hazzards go head-to-head in the semi-finals of theWarwick A-grade netball minor premiership.
Doorslammer defensive player Susan Ellis said she thought the team had a good shot at making it to the grand finals.
"This past Monday night we played pretty well and had good defence down the court so I think we have a fairly good chance of getting through," Ellis said.
"Shutting down their shooters is something we've got to work on and they've got pretty good speed down the court," she said.
The teams are evenly matched and have played each other twice this season, the first match won by Doorslammers 33 to 27, the second by Hazzards 29 to 27.
Doorslammers' last grand final match was lost to Hazzards in 2010.
Ellis said five years on, the team was hungry for the trophy.
"We're keen to make it through next Monday's preliminary to come up against Confro in the grand final," she said.
"Both our teams have had a few changes with players since the start of the season so we both will be going in knowing it will be a tough match up across the court.
"I think especially this year we're fairly even across the board and wouldn't say our shooting or defense is stronger than the other."
Even without a semi finals win, Ellis said the season had been fun.
"It's an exciting time of the season and with just recently attending the World Cup in Sydney and watching the Diamonds claim the trophy I will be pumped going into the finals," she said.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed playing for Doorslammers since 2001.
"2015 has been an enjoyable year, with lots of close games and it would be great to top off with a grand final placing."
