Talitha Doro eyes Australian team again

FOOTBALL: After representing two different Australian teams in the past two years, Talitha Doro has the chance to return to grassroots football with the South West Thunder in the South-East Queensland Women's Premier League this weekend.

Talitha, 16, is one of the three youngest in the Thunder team and will play centre midfield against Mitchelton at Mitchelton in the season opener at 6pm Saturday.

Older sister Shandell, 18, is one of the Thunder players and is expected to play midfield or on a wing.

As well as her Thunder commitments this year, Talitha is aiming for more Australian representation.

She played for the Australian under-17 team in a Junior World Cup qualifier in the Philippines in 2012 and early this year toured the United Kingdom with the Australian schoolgirls side.

Talitha is now in year 12 at Warwick State High School so is keen to play for the national schoolgirls again.

"The trip to the United Kingdom was really good, we won six of our eight games," Talitha said.

"I played centre midfield and left back and want to make this year's team in the same positions."

She is a natural left-foot kicker but believes her work with the right foot is improving.

"Long term I want to play for the Matildas and definitely must be strong on both feet to have a chance of making the team," she said.

The Doro sisters travel to Toowoomba twice a week for training and will have every second game in the premier league at their home ground, Clive Berghofer Stadium.
