Thunder midfielder proves she's All-Star

FOOTBALL: South-West Thunder midfielder Talitha Doro was part of the National Premier League's Queensland women's All Star team that took on the Brisbane Roar in a trial game.

Held at Goodwin Park in Brisbane last Sunday, the trial game was a final chance to get Doro's name out ahead of the W-League season.

The 17-year-old from Wheatvale enjoyed the opportunity to play against the Roar after training with the side during her time at the Queensland Academy of Sport a couple of years ago.

"It was pretty nerve-racking to start with. I knew most of the girls in the team because I have trained with them before," Doro said.

"But it was a good chance to play against some stronger players."

Mother Leeanda and brother Bryce Doro travelled to Brisbane to watch the trial game which was delayed for an hour because of heavy rain.

Goals to Katie Winter and Brittney Whitfield were not enough as the All Star's went down to the Roar 4-2 in a tight contest.

The pressure was on with some of the players in the match trialling for the up-coming NPL season.

Doro played the whole match for the All Stars, playing the first half in the midfield before swapping to left back for the second.

Doro said she enjoyed playing different positions but preferred playing in defence.

"I like playing in the left back position because you get the chance to move forward and I have fun defending," she said.

Doro moved to Brisbane last month and said the change had been great for her training.

"I've really enjoyed the move," Doro said.

"It's definitely made it easier for training and getting to matches."

This season she will play for the Gap Football Club in the NPL Queensland 2016 season.
